About Us
Methodism first came to Alderney in 1787 – and there’s been
a presence ever since. We're an enthusiastic church community seeking to worship
God, and also to serve the island community as best we
can.
At the moment our
church community numbers about 30 and we usually have about 20 people at church
on a Sunday.
Through the Week
We run a number of activities
through the week – you’ll find details for the current week on our home page –
which include:
Ecumenical Prayer Group – meeting in St Anne’s Anglican
Church
Bible Study – we follow a study programme, usually for
about eight weeks at a time, you’re welcome to ‘dip in’ and try it
Prayer Group – weekly prayers for our island community
Lunch-2-Gether – a lunch club held twice a month for those
island residents who live alone
Coffee Morning – every Friday morning from 10.30am in our
church hall – everyone welcome!
Our Minister
Our Minister is Rev. David Stretton. He and his family have been with us since May
2022. Before arriving on Alderney, David
was in Arnside in Cumbria, and before that in Macclesfield in Cheshire.
Rev. David is part-time which means that he usually works
mornings and not afternoons – when he can usually be found tinkering with his
Morris Minor!
As with all Methodist churches, the church is run by a
church council and served by two church stewards – Penny Ash and Ian Carter.
